More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  The people who go by the conservative label today (0+ / 0-)

aren't really conservative.  It's a disguise they use to hide who and what they really are. Anti-government nihilist radical wouldn't go over well so they pretend to be conservative.  Patriot is another disguise though they don't seem to be concerned about the damage they do to the country for the sake of their party.  They make a big deal of being Christians but they don't live it.  Financial experts? They crashed the economy.  The hard-working tax payers who foot the bill for the freeloading 47%?  Nope, they're the taxed enough already who probably aren't paying more than their share because they're numerous in states with the lowest income.

Nothing adds up with them because they're grifters.  They have nothing to offer.  They're just here to scam.

You don't need logic, reason, or critical thinking when you have no legitimate public policy to promote.  When you're proposals are so unappealing, except to the 1% elite, you don't want people thinking.  You want them lying and attacking.

They don't need no stinkin critical thought.  In fact, they don't need thought.  Period.   I do think the brain can become lazy when it isn't exercised and it shows sometimes.

All that said, critical thought is in short supply across the board in the US.  I don't think the educational system encourages it.  It needs to be taught.  It isn't innate.

There is no existence without doubt.

    thinking skills.

we see it all too often right here on this blog.

it is, imho, a result of an education system that has emphasized teaching to the test and all grade oriented results and targeted skills instead of a more liberal arts education (where all things are brought together to show the interconnectivity).

i can think of several "popular" writers whose followers choose personality over fact.

frankly, it worries me - a lot.

    •  I like your empty comment (0+ / 0-)

"it isn't just conservatives who lack critical thinking skills.
we see it all too often right here on this blog." -- and then you don't explain how --- Y'see, stating something you think is empirical fact and not following it up with an explanation is not exercising critical thought...  Are you speaking of ME? The Comments of others? -- You just lay it there without explanation...

      •  i definitely was not referring to you. your diary (0+ / 0-)

is an opportunity to reiterate how many comments on this site are based on "feelings" without factual basis to back those feelings up.

i'm sorry i posted and ran - i had an appointment for which i was late... then at the last minute it got cancelled.

i am sure that you, too, have witnessed in some of the pie fights the complete lack of logic or facts... those fights are 99% personality based and they devolve into name calling, ad homs, belittling any opposing point of view.

this is exactly the modus operandi of the right wing - and, sadly, it seems to work.

okay - have to go to bed - very little sleep last night and very tired right now.

if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask when i'm a bit more coherent tomorrow night... but, again, you were definitely NOT the mindset i was referring to in my comment.
