Each day I have the opportunity to sign more petitions, contribute more money, Post more slogans, etc. The tone of the calls for support seems to say that I am guilty of holding back. They come from everywhere including our beloved Daily Kos. We see diary after diary talking about how we are losing our ability to survive on what we make... but if we would only donate more...
A definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again and expecting the results to change. The world is insane!
Politicians are locked into the same patterns by the system. They have to raise money and run for election to do something for us. If elected they find themselves able to do little and also caught in the immediate struggle for reelection.
So what more must I do? Read on below the break and I'll explore this further.
When I am able I come to this site many times a day. It is a great source for news. It is also a place to get a feeling for how people are coping with an insane world. If I were into statistics I'd compile a history of the myriad repetitions of the same themes over and over agin. Since I am not into statistics (even though I am an expert in their use) I'll rather give an impressionistic portrait of what I see here and elsewhere (I am also an artist and sort of an impressionist).
First of all it is clear that the republicans and especially the Tea Party are lunatics. They demonstrate it over and over and...and over again. We are clever and catch them. We point it out over and over and...and over again. We have very good values and we talk about them over and over and...and over again. We have good candidates that reflect our good values and we talk about them over and over and...and over again. The candidates need support and we make pleas over and over and...and over again.
We are actually not doing well as a country right now because the republican bad guys are really in control. They have this wonderful advantage in that they can stop things. Since their leadership is crazy they do what they must to stop us. Since our leadership are almost all good guys with good values they let the republicans walk all over them.
Meanwhile the people watch this like a kind of bad theater. It fits with the way they have become accustomed to watch the world on TV.
I have to confess that I have hurt lots of feelings here by talking this way. I really am a bigot of sorts. I can't tollerate this stuff.
Meanwhile I continue to ask the same basic question over and over again.
"When will doing the same thing over and over again begin to work?"
I have to confess that I am growing impatient. At 77 I could just lay back and enjoy the rest of my retirement. I am smart enough to know that my efforts will not make or break the course of what is coming.
Having been an academic and a scholar all my life as well as a political activist, I am at this point and still willing to try to help. Maybe someone out there has an idea of what more people who have given their all for decades can do? I am open to suggestions.
