Last Friday I wrote, Full Frontal Racism , a diary about a page on Facebook, AMERICANS AGAINST BARACK OBAMA, that had posted some incredibly racist images/memes. This is one of them:
Liberal Facebook members, kossacks, and those with a conscience, responded and reported the meme as racist. Sunday around 2am EDT Facebook removed that picture and atleast one other that was Islamaphobic.
During the uproar when liberals flooded their page (I updated the original diary x6) to let them know what they thought of them, another racist meme was posted. (despite what AABO says and claims that it doesn't violate Facebook Community Standards, calling/comparing an African American man an ape is racist and thereby violates community standards. Facebook may need a lot more people telling them so. Again it takes two windows to complete the reporting process).
Facebook found that the group itself did not violate their standards.
Tuning into the page through out Sunday was rather interesting. I knew they'd be angry. They had arrogantly taunted those who objected to their racist, homophobic, Islamaphobic, etc. memes, seeming to believe that no matter what they did, they couldn't be touched. So they started their Sunday off well:
Good morning Patriots. Today is a good day to make a Libturd cry. I'm in a banning kinda mood. Who's first today?! Eric
Gee I wonder whatever got Eric into that kind of mood.
It quickly went down hill from there.
Those of us checking their images noticed at first, a few images calling liberals cry babies (irony thick after their chest beating the Friday and Saturday before), then a few posts on the Million Muslim March on Washington next Sept. 11 (I hadn't heard about it until I saw their images, you can imagine what this Islamaphobic group was saying, a few more posts that played with a the line into racism. And then things to a curious turn Sunday evening.
Ten(10) images of Michelle Obama
Four of them the
same picture(the one above). All with the words "
ungrateful" emblazoned on the graphic.
The first one had this question in the description field:
PLEASE SPECIFY WHICH ONE OF THESE "FACEBOOK COMMUNITY STANDARDS" DOES THIS PICTURE VIOLATE? IT WILL BE POSTED AND REPOSTED UNTIL I GET AN ANSWER....SAL
Except they have banned all the people who could answer that question (their banned list must be hundreds and hundreds of people long) - and will probably remove and then ban anyone who does answer it.
On the face of it, it doesn't look like it violates community standards.* And it seems SAL, and the administrators of the page really don't understand what the difference between this image/meme and the one at the top of this diary.
Eight of the other "ungrateful" images had a link to Facebook definitions of Community Standards.
And one taunted those who "knew" to tell SAL . . .
ANYONE HAVE AN ANSWER??? SAL
. . . except, like I said, they've made it impossible for them to get the answer.
tsk, tsk, tsk
They are like someone who broke the only light in a dark room yelling about the fact that there is no light in the room. Why is there no light in the room?!
Sigh
This group has been put on notice. The stress of knowing they are now being watched may rein their racism in, or cause them to "go out" in a blaze of glory (facebook may get tired of dealing with their memes that violate the standards and finally decide that the group itself violates it's standards.) But that takes vigilance - there are other "undiscovered" facebook pages just like it.
What I said in Friday's dairy still stands, if persons or groups are going to post racist images/meme don't expect it to stand without comment or action.
Maybe one day they will learn. Until then, report.
* The subject for what "ungrateful" means in white racist parlance is for another diary. It is doubtful that Facebook would see it that way, deciding that "ungrateful" was just an opinion.
