Ed Markey, clearly the choice for women in Massachusetts.
Go figure.
BOSTON — A new poll suggests women are souring on Republican Gabriel Gomez in the Massachusetts U.S. Senate race.
The survey, which gives U.S. Rep. Edward Markey an overall lead of 47-39 on Gomez, is the third conducted by Democratic-affiliated Public Policy Polling.
Markey, a Democrat, has watched that overall margin grow only slightly over the course of the three polls—from four points, to seven points, to eight.
But Markey’s edge with women has expanded more significantly—from 10 to 16 points—in the last month.
Gomez has been a disaster on women's issues, particularly abortion and women's health throughout the campaign, and the worst part of it is that he doesn't seem to care at all that he's a disaster on them. He and his staff continue to insist that he's got more important things to focus on, like jobs and the economy. Even to the
point that his press guy, Will Ritter, called the Blunt amendment a "inside baseball freakout" that Gomez would continue to ignore.
The latest polling information might make Gomez try to change his tune, but it'll be awfully hard for him to make up any ground with women in Massachusetts, particularly after he fumbled so badly in the debate, and admitted his willingness to vote for an anti-choice Supreme Court nominee.
Gomez would be bad for women, in Massachusetts and in the country. The good news is that the women in Massachusetts seem to be well aware of that.
