If we are to understand an oath to the government of the United States can never be broken under any circumstances, what, we ask is a whistleblower to do? Yeah Mr. President, we need to have this national discussion as well and we need to have it sooner than later.
We’ve been are observing so called paid legal experts along with members of congress labeling the Prism program leaker a traitor and calling for his immediate extradition. They, and a seemingly complicit domestic media are clearly sending a very loud message by making an example of Mr. Snowden, that only a fool would follow going forward.
In our opinion, for all intent and purposes, the very concept of Whistle blowing has been effectively destroyed. Taking cover behind a pack of ill informed information technology illiterates in congress, who’d sign off on policies they couldn’t possibly understand to make an informed judgment, may be legal, but it damn sure don’t make it right. For the time being, the administration’s polling numbers appear to be holding up under the strain of these revelations, but with more leaks to follow, that could change.
Seeing this become an ugly reality on the watch of the man who’d been elected to the presidency, by preaching the need for transparency, makes this state of affairs all the more tragic. Perhaps the president can give another of his trademark speeches. We think the people should be assured the Obama administration can withstand a bit of scrutiny itself from time to time.
Hence, until further notice we’d advise anyone signing a contractual agreement or an oath of any sort with the United States government, to check their conscience and convictions at the door. When one considers what one could be asked to do, not to do, say or not to say could conflict wildly with anyone harboring a strong moral compass, it probably wouldn’t be prudent to offer your services the the United States government in the first place.
No matter how egregious one’s activities/assigned duties or that of others are, one is to remain silent and compliant. Even if the job one takes initially morphs into something very different, you are still bound by the Cosa Nostra like code of “keep your trap shut” till your dying day. God forbid you were raised, not to lie, cheat, steal or kill. Theoretically, you could truly be signing a pack with the devil himself. Read the contract, we’re certain said devil will appear somewhere in the details.
Still, somehow we remain convinced there should be some red line or threshold of government wrongdoing that could be reported by those willing to do the right thing without fear of persecution and prosecution. There has to be mechanism left in place for individuals to sound an alarm when they feel they’ve witnessed their government engaging in behaviors and activities contrary to the rule of law (as we know it), justice and or core American values.
If there is such a threshold or red line, we are unaware it and we’re sorry to report, this is how the government wants things to remain.
