Monday!!
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Ok, we now have a regular diary schedule. If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.

If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
I don't remember how I first stumbled across the Sedlec Ossuary, but I was simultaneously fascinated and a bit repelled.
The Sedlec Ossuary is nothing spectacular in the outside. It is a small chapel located in Sedlec, in the suburbs of Kutna Hora, in the Czech Republic. You would think that it is just an average old medieval gothic church.
As you enter the Sedlec Ossuary though, you will soon realize why it is one of the most amazing and unique churches in the world. The Sedlec Ossuary is artistically decorated by more than 40.000 human skeletons.
The Chandelier in the Sedlec Ossuary. It contains at least one of every bone in the human body
People wanted to be buried in Sedlec because it was considered a holy place. In 1278, the King of Bohemia sent the abbot of the Sedlec Monastery to Jerusalem. The abbot returned with a jar of soil from Golgotha, which he sprinkled on the grounds of the All Saints Chapel. For many years afterwards, people were buried in the cemetery on the grounds. During the 17th century, however, available cemetery space ran out, and people were exhumed. Their bones were stored in the chapel.

Coat of arms, Schwartzenberg family
In 1870, a woodcarver named František Rint was hired by the Schwartzenberg family (the landowners) to put the bones in order. His fantastical creations grace the chapel to this day.
Chalice, Sedlec Ossuary
I still can't decide if this ossuary is a morbid, macabre memento mori, or art that is made from skeletons. But I do think that it is interesting. Wishing everyone a happy and sunny Monday!
