Look, if you were up tonight around 1:00 am eastern tonight, you saw what happened in the Texas State Senate. There is no way in Hell that this is NOT going to a lengthy court battle. But just as important as the result of this battle is what it means for the future.
What future?
The future that can happen if we turn tonight's STAND by a principled, brave state senator Wendy Davis into an ADVANCE of the Democratic party cause in Texas.
How do we do that?
It's time to pour money, time, GOTV options, the whole nine yards into Texas.
I'm talking Blood, Sweat and Tears.
Wendy Davis and the Democratic supporters (both in the Texas delegation and in the crowd) provided the means for future victories in a state that many folks just write off as "Deep-Red".
They stood together, and no matter the result, they've entered the annals of political history.
Now it's time for everyone to turn that stand into an advance. Hammer the Republicans at every turn with what they did tonight. Make them dread each election, as more of them "softly and silently vanish away" in electoral defeat. Turn the Texas House blue. Turn the Texas Senate Blue.
Then turn it Blue in Presidential elections, from which point there is no coming back for the Republicans.
But we need to make tonight's brave and principled stand into the point of furthest advance.
We must say "This far, no further."
I hope come the 2016 Democratic National Convention, that Wendy Davis is one of the primetime speakers, to remind everyone how far our opposition will go to enact their backwards agenda.
And we must be ready to stand with Wendy, our colleagues in the Heart of Texas, and ultimately across the nation.
