It was with as much humor as it was sadness, that we watched civil rights icons, with political and voter rights activists lamented the Supreme Court's "Devastating" and "Crippling" ruling on the Voting Rights Act. Rev. We saw Al Sharpton leading the charge in calling the country to action as he resurrected the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King. Even Julian Bond dusted himself off for a little face time to vent. But, when you get right down to it, fighting for the right to vote is a worthless effort if the vote itself is worthless.
In our view, these pathetic relics of yesterday's strategies are misdirecting lost souls back to the right to vote struggle, while failing to realize the continual diminishing value of said vote. Fighting 20th century issues with 20th century strategies only garnered marginal results at best. It should be needless say it, but for the slowest amongst us, we'll take the time to do so. Continuing those dated efforts in the 21st century will net even less.
Like a rabbit ear TV, you can slap it all you want, but that picture will never be clear again. Its broken and can not be repaired. Americans must come to terms with the fact that we need an entirely new system. Monkeying around with an antiquated and corrupt electoral process will not get this country where it wants and needs to go.
In our view, until the American voting process will allow for a woman's right to equal pay for equal work and full control of her reproductive health, we see little value in the "vote. Until a Black man can walk a New York City street without being accosted and unduly searched by local law dogs, we say screw the "vote".
Until Congress will yield to the will of the people when 90% polled favored some form of gun control, we say take your vote and shove it. Until the LGBT community no longer have to live like second and third class citizens, we say to hell with the vote. In fact, (God Damn it)we won't respect the vote until the LGBT people are fully integrated into the "We the People" community. After all, they are as much as we the people as anybody any of the people.
But wait there's more!
Until Americans can board a plane to go on vacation without being x-rayed and or patted down, we say keep your friggin vote. Until an American can safely blow the whistle on government wrongdoing without being chased around the world to be locked up and silenced, we say thanks but, well we'll wait for something better.
Quite frankly, we can't see any rational for continued participation in a system where elected representatives represent every special interests but the American people.
From where we stand, the "vote" no longer guarantees a middle class American a God Damn thing. In fact, the only thing worth less than the middle class American's right to vote, is the middle class American's political contributions. Once "they" get it, its thanks sucker and goodbye until next time.
Until the power of the vote can deliver decent jobs with a living wage, affordable healthcare, a 21st century education and a respectable social safety net, we say don't call us we'll call you.
Witnessing the usual suspects unwittingly shepherding their ignorant flocks back to the polls for another disappointment in 2014/2016, without advising them to come up with new ways to increase the value of the vote is a tragedy. To do, so while the government leads that ignorant flock into the world's most comprehensive "Digital Lockdown" known to mankind is sickening.
