Photos of an extremely rare jaguar roaming Forest Service land near Arizona's Santa Rita Mountains have been published by the Arizona Daily Star, which got the images from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
The male jaguar, believed to be the lone known unconfined jaguar in the U.S., has been in the area since at least September 2012, when its image was captured by a hunter's motion-detector camera.
Jeff Humphrey, public outreach specialist with the Fish & Wildlife Service, who spoke with Yahoo News, explained that around the time the hunter captured the photo, the Fish & Wildlife Service and the University of Arizona began using funds supplied by the Department of Homeland Security to monitor the movement of jaguars along the Mexico border. The mission of that project is to learn how border patrols affect jaguars, Humphrey explained.
A raccoon attacks 2 sisters
Irie Campbell, 11, was playing with her friend Piper Rolfe, 10, and Irie's 5-year-old brother, Felix, when the raccoon attacked Irie. Irie spoke with WCAX about the incident.
"So I put my hands up to my face like this. And then it grabs onto my thumb," Irie said. "I started to choke it with my left hand, and then it started to fall off and then it grabbed a hold of me right here. I started to choke it with both hands. Then it jumped up and got me on my hand, and now I have four stitches there."
The attack might have been worse were it not for Piper's bravery. Piper, who suffers from a degenerative visual disorder and is legally blind, began hitting the raccoon with a stick.

John Lennons Ferrari goes on the block
John Lennon's 1965 Ferrari can be yours.
The blue Ferrari 330GT coupe with a matching interior will be auctioned off in July by the London-based auction house Bonhams.
The fully restored car is expected to be sold for $340,000.
Lennon bought the car in 1965 right after he got his driver's license. He personally handpicked it from a selection of Maseratis, Aston Martins, and Jaguars luxury car dealers sent him, according to Bonhams' website.

Robot to join astronauts on the space station
The world's first space conversation experiment between a robot and humans is ready to be launched.
Developers from the Kirobo project, named after "kibo" or hope in Japanese and "robot," gathered in Tokyo Wednesday to demonstrate the humanoid robot's ability to talk.
"Russia was the first to go outer space, the U.S. was the first to go to the moon, we want Japan to be the first to send a robot-astronaut to space that can communicate with humans," said Yorichika Nishijima, the Kirobo project manager.
