As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!Follow me over the orange decorative feature for what little I have.
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
I will probably be posting a Netroots Nation diary soon. I tend to title them "What I Did on My Summer Vacation".
The travel was more of an adventure than I thought it was going to be. The plane I was supposed to go south on broke down, and it took a couple of hours for them to find a replacement. I only found out the next day that part of the trouble with finding the replacement was the tornado that touched down at the Denver that Tuesday afternoon.
I had instructions on how to take public transit to the Convention Center that were accurate, and I hit it lucky with the timing, so it was a quick trip.
For the return trip, ramara (who had a rental car) gave me a ride to the airport - SusanS, as well, actually.
Once there, being in plenty of time, I hung around with ramara as the glitch with her rental got sorted out - it wasn't a difficult problem, but their computer didn't seem to be cooperating.
Then, I couldn't use the self check-in. My flight had been canceled. This involved transferring me to a flight out of Oakland (no charge), a free shuttle ride to the Oakland Airport, a meal voucher that got me a very good serving of chicken chow fun and some tea, and a four hour delay. The girl who made my arrangements emailed my daughter and in Oakland I finally managed to get through to my stepfather who promised to tell my mother to call my daughter about the change in my itinerary.
And I finally got home. I went to work on Monday and discovered that whoever it was who said they would sub for me on the 23rd apparently got hit upside the head by real life.
