Third of July: A pretty mundane small blurb in The Salt Lake Tribune. Title - "50 bullets found in passengers bag at airport" - Uh, make that "carry on bag". Okay, .22 and 50 rounds you gotta be thinking "a box, just a box of 22 shells. I mean, size wise, that's not much, especially if they were shorts." On the other hand, "bullets, a lot of bullets, going through security in an airport in the modern world?"

Fourth of July: Still in my daily Trib, but this time off of the AP wire. "More air passengers show up with guns". And not just "more" but how about a 30% increase year to date over last year at this time? Or, at least as bad, a weekly record in May that was 30% worse than the previous weekly record, SET TWO WEEKS BEFORE?

If you're on the RKBA side of this thing, what are you going to do? Argue that the absolute number of 1,549 TSA confiscations in 2012 is, oh, say, peanuts?

Except, of course, we're not talking about folks walking aroung randomly with lethal weapons.

We're talking about here, now, today, airport security. What's wrong with these people? You ever hear about anyone walking up to the check point and saying, figuratively or literally, here's my bag, and here's my pot?

I mean, I'm sick and tired of hearing about "responsible gun owners". It's not about the "owners", as so many of those folks have deluded themselves into believing, it's about the killing machines that they wildly underestimte the lethalness of. Millions, and millions, and millions of people are simply afraid of guns in the hands of other folks who are clueless. And, based on the stats, reasonably so.

So, who are gun owners? Really?

No one knows. Because of the NRA types, stats are not allowed to be kept.

What we have is "public record information", and the media.

And what that gives us is, that within the body of gun owners are many who, seemingly, conclude "yeah, guns are where it's at, and we all gotta have them. And, I don't know about you, but I just ain't going to leave home without it".

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
