Reuters has just reported the Egyptian Army's investiture of Nobel Peace Prize Winner Mohammed ElBaradi as interim Prime Minister. The Islamist Muslim Brotherhood promises implacable opposition to ElBaradi:
"We reject this coup and all that results from it, including ElBaradei," Farid Ismail, of the Brotherhood's political wing the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), told Reuters.
He described ElBaradei as "Washington's choice", a reference to suspicions among Brotherhood members of U.S. complicity in Mursi's overthrow.
So, what do Kossacks think this bodes for Egypt? Personally, I am pleased. I believe it proper for civic minded Egyptians to oppose their nation's minority of Islamist theocrats and demand secular government.
UPDATE: 1735 CDT 7/6/2013
The Washington Post and other news organizations are reporting that Egyptian state media have withdrawn the announcement of ElBaradi's selection. The actual status of his appointment presently appears uncertain. Thus far, no other has been named in ElBaradi's stead.
