Received this e-mail today from former Governor and DNC Cahiman Howard Dean (D. VT) regarding gubernatorial candidate, Ken Cuccinelli (R. VA):
We have absolutely got to win in Virginia this fall.

Never mind that Ken Cuccinelli is absolutely crazy (he is), or that far right Virginia legislators seem determined to make life miserable for anyone who isn't a Caucasian male (they are), or the damage the two combined could do to Virginia (a lot).

We have to win because whatever happens in Virginia won't stay there. If we win, we'll set the tone for 2014 and beyond, and put right-wing extremists across the country on notice. If we lose, an empowered conservative movement will unleash a flood of state-level legislation like never before.

I know which I'd prefer. That's why Democracy for America is investing heavily in our Purple to Blue program, fighting to take back critical state houses -- starting in Virginia, where we just announced our final slate of candidates.

Help us build the grassroots campaign we need to win this fall by donating $1.71 or more today:

In the last month alone, in Texas, North Carolina, Ohio, and Wisconsin, Republican state leaders have passed sweeping new restrictions on a woman's right to choose, a worker's right to organize, and an individual's right to vote. And like us, they're already looking ahead. Leading anti-abortion groups and conservative donors have publicly declared their intent to use Virginia as a blueprint for conservative campaigns going forward. Worse, they're backing up their talk with millions in special interest money.

That's why we need to stop them in Virginia -- and we've got the team and plans to make it happen. DFA is working hand-in-hand with all five of our strong Purple to Blue candidates to mount a grassroots response to Republican attacks. We're drawing up a blueprint of our own, and it's based on neighbor-to-neighbor organizing and empowering candidates and volunteers.

Building this organization takes time, and we've just got a few short months till Election Day. That's why we're on the ground right now -- and why I need your support today.

Pitch in $1.71 or more today to build our Purple to Blue grassroots organization:

Thanks for all you do,

Gov. Howard Dean, M.D.
Founder, Democracy for America

P.S. Seriously, if Cuccinnelli and his allies win, Virginia's in real trouble. Chip in today to stop it from happening.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
