When Stevie Wonder said he will boycott Florida and all the other states that have stand your ground laws, I cheered. My hope is he is joined by more and more artist and performers. Not just black artist but all artist, black, white, R & B, blues, country etc. I recognize this won't be the case, but the ones who do join him can have a major economic impact. And money talks. How many arenas might sit empty if more artist take this position? One or two concerts won't do it, it has to be in the hundreds nationwide.
Some men see things as they are and say why - I dream things that never were and say why not.
George Bernard Shaw
I've mentioned to a few people over the years another boycott I'd like to see, one that could help reverse the new Jim Crow laws and more. I'd like to see young black athletes boycott the state universities of the states that discriminate against their right to vote. I would hope that they would be joined by their white friends and teammates, but that might be a wish too far. The best hope that they would be joined by their white friends and teammates stems from the idea that today's young people are more colorblind than previous generations. But young athletes are still influenced by their parents and that may be the hangup with having young white athletes join their black friends and teammates in using their skills and talents make a difference, a real difference in real peoples lives.
Just think of how pissed off Joe Scarbourough would be if his beloved Alabama wasn't getting the best athletes in Alabama to stay in Alabama. Multiply that times all the alum from Florida and Texas to Tennessee, Georgia, North and South Carolina. As the politicians try to deprive these young athletes of their rights, they cheer them on for good ol' "Bama" or Florida or or or...
Okay, I've put it out there. Add to it or critique it, just don't say it can't be done. There's an old PMA saying out there that goes like this;
Anything the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.
Well, it's been conceived, can you believe?
On with the games!!
Mojo Friday Guidelines
1) If you comment you have to recommend all comments. (in order to receive mojo you have to give mojo. It's only good mojo manners.)
2) Everything you say may be taken as a joke (so if you ask a question, expect a silly answer)
3) You must recommend the diary (and pimp it unapologetically)
4) You don't have to comment to recommend.
5) You can't steal my idea (right, like that ain't goin' to happen)
6) Please, no pictures or YouTubes until after 300 comments. Now, after 300, use a little common courtesy and be responsible in the number.
