John G. Rowland, who was forced to resign from office in the face of corruption charges and spent time in a Federal Prison, now has a radio program on WTIC, 1080 AM. Hearing some comments that Mr. Rowland made today on a particular subject, I called the station and was questioned by the producer about the nature of my call. I explained that I would have liked to engage the host about his comments, (several questions being asked of me as to why these questions were appropriate and / or germane to the discussion), and was put on "hold". After twenty minutes on hold with his call-in show, I was disconnected. When I immmediately called back, I was told by the the producer that Mr. Rowland was not going to take my call. The subject was snapping turtles.
The Hartford Courant, which touts itself as the "Oldest, Continuosly Published Newspaper in America", ran on their "Connecticut Page" the headline today,"Agency Hatches Plan To Save Turtles". The State Department of of Energy and Environmental Protection is proposing a snapping turtle seasonal and bag limit. The proposed turtle taking season is meant to protect egg-laying females. The rules would also ban egg taking. The regulations are proposed to dissuade commercial harvesting, which mainly serves Asian markets for turtle cuisine and as snappers for pets. The pet aspect is perhaps hard to understand, as snappers spend most of their time under water. As an interactive pet, they can hardly be considered high on the list.
Mr. Rowland's comments were geared to the expense of a state funded program and aquaduct that tagged and monitored the movements (GPS) of turtles to and from breeding habitats. My call to his radio program was only going to be cordial, and to point out that we, as a species, must pay attention and do due diligence to our surroundings and interconnected biosphere. And to ask him, please, if we were going to disagree on the role of government in such matters, to at least give information to his listeners about how to give to such private concerns as the Audubon Society or Green Peace or any other such organizations. Yet, no, I did not get that chance. Mr. Rowland's producer said, and I now quote, "John is has decided not to take your call". So John Rowland made that decision, as far as I can deduce. And know this, I placed my call at 4:00 PM. Mr. Rowland's show goes off air at 6:00 P.M.
Of interest may be how John Rowland came to be the host of this time period on WTIC 1080 AM. After serving his sentence in a federal prison in Pennsylvania, he was accorded this "show" with Pastor Will Marotti, called "State and Church". They replaced a true Connectict gem, Colin McEnroe, (who can now be heard on Connecticut Public Radio). What part of being a good steward of the Lord's creation am I missing here?
So, want to talk about censorship? Why can we not have a discussion of such issues? Why only the pissing and moaning of those who only want to disparage the concerns of the one's of us who see the rabbit population exploding but don't see a squirrel raiding our feeders anymore?
Why does Jim Vicevich get 9:00 to 12:00, and Rush gets 12: to 3:00, and Colin gets kicke'd away?
