Welcome to Kitchen Table Kibitzing, a new community series that will post nightly at 5:00 Pacific, 6:00 Mountain, 7:00 Central, 8:00 Eastern. remembrance and nomandates came up with the idea for this series during Netroots Nation 13.
As we envision it, KTK is a community for those who wish to share part of their evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and so forth. Or just say "Hi" if you've had a long day and are too exhausted to participate more actively. We would also appreciate links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate.
Please note that pie fights will be unwelcome in this community, just as in most other series at DKos. There's lots of space at the rest of the site for fighting with other Democrats, progressives, and liberals, and we don't want those battles dragged into this series.
Finally, readers may notice that most who are posting diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but that definitely does not mean that newcomers will be excluded or unwelcome. We're happy to welcome guests to our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
Stolen from nomandates
This is one of many “Community Open Threads” that post through out the day. Below I will share a few with a brief description.
Morning Open Thread
Just as it says it is an open thread that post every morning at 6:30am ET. Topics vary depending on the mood of the diarist and commenters but no topic is off topic.
The Daily Bucket
Times vary but most often post at 8:00am ET.
"Phenology is a science that anyone can practice without a lab coat, microscope, or PhD. It's the study of seasonal events such as first flowers, appearance of certain butterflies, etc. People have tracked these dates for decades -- even centuries -- and now there's a place on DK4 to record your own observations. A casual spot to tell what you're seeing in the park down the road or in your own back yard."
What’s Happenin’?
Every morning joanneleon gathers an assortment of news, tweets and videos. She often leads with a photo of a flower, always a great way to start the day.
Weekdays 8:30am ET. Weekends and Holidays 10:00am ET
The Morning F Bomb
One of my favorite morning series post every weekday at 10:00am ET. Floja Roja starts with a few questions to get the conversation going, then follows with a collection of tweets. She then proceeds with the daily history lesson that includes; “On This Day,” “Born on This Day,” “Died on This Day” and “This Day is.” Relevant music videos and photos help to bring the diary to life (pro tip: hold your curser over the photos for the witty hidden messages).
New Day
Started by Navajo this series now includes many top-notch writers. Every day at 10:30am ET they post on a variety of topics but the comment threads are always open to any topic you desire. Most Mondays Aji post “This Week in American Indian News,” this is probably the most comprehensive coverage of this topic on the Internet.
And if that wasn’t enough “New Day” includes a listing of all upcoming kossack meet-ups. If you every wondered what the person behind the screen name was like in person, this could be you chance. And if you can’t find a meet-up in your area you can create one and Navajo will help you promote it.
This is only a partial list of the many series and open threads on Daily Kos, next time I’ll list some others.
