"I believe the best economic development is worshiping Ronald Reagan."
BREAKING NEWS: For those of you who have been annoyed that the one and only, Darrell Issa, has not focused at all on anything economic-related, think again.
It appears Issa has now FINALLY decided to do something productive for a change that actually makes a difference for the "not-strong-enough" economy:
Naming 3.4 million square nautical miles of ocean and thousands of miles of coastline after President Ronald Reagan.

The House Natural Resources Committee will likely approve legislation Wednesday that would name 3.4 million square nautical miles of ocean and thousands of miles of coastline after the late President Ronald Reagan.
Rep. Darrell Issa’s (R-Calif.) legislation would rename the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), which generally extends from three miles to 200 miles offshore, as the Ronald Wilson Reagan Exclusive Economic Zone.
The legislation will be included in Wednesday’s markup of several bills. Here’s some background from a February E2-Wire story about the EEZ bill:
The late Reagan, a Californian like Issa, established the EEZ with a 1983 presidential proclamation that declared the nation’s sovereign rights for exploring, exploiting and conserving offshore resources, including energy.
According to the article, Issa has introduced this bill multiple times in Congress and appears now to have finally been able to get it passed through the House Natural Resources Committee.
Here's the statement from Issa:
http://thehill.com/...
Issa, in prepared testimony for a congressional hearing on the bill in 2012, said it would be a fitting recognition of the late president.
“President Reagan appreciated that America is blessed with an abundance of natural resources and understood that to remain competitive and to promote strong economic growth, we need to effectively develop and responsibly make use of our natural wealth,” Issa said.
Reagan certainly did Congressman, he certainly did.
But wait, what does Reagan and this legislation have to do with addressing the economy these days?
Answer: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Therefore, what point is there naming miles and miles of coastline after Ronald Reagan and certifying it as an economic zone? What is this accomplishing in Congress?
Answer: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
I mean, how does one designate coastal waters as an economic zone anyway? Does this give stimulation to the economy? Does it give any hope to the millions of jobless Americans?
Answer: NO IT DOESN'T.
Here's the bill, H.R. 553, as defined:
http://thomas.loc.gov/...
113th CONGRESS
1st Session
H. R. 553
To designate the exclusive economic zone of the United States as the “Ronald Wilson Reagan Exclusive Economic Zone of the United States”.
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
February 6, 2013
Mr. Issa introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Natural Resources
A BILL
To designate the exclusive economic zone of the United States as the “Ronald Wilson Reagan Exclusive Economic Zone of the United States”.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. DESIGNATION OF THE RONALD WILSON REAGAN EXCLUSIVE ECONOMIC ZONE OF THE UNITED STATES.
(a) Designation.—The exclusive economic zone of the United States, as established by Presidential Proclamation Numbered 5030, dated March 10, 1983, is designated as the “Ronald Wilson Reagan Exclusive Economic Zone of the United States”.
(b) References.—Any reference in a law, map, regulation, document, paper, or other record of the United States to the exclusive economic zone of the United States is deemed to be a reference to the “Ronald Wilson Reagan Exclusive Economic Zone of the United States”.
This sounds like the efforts going on in putting Ronald Reagan's face on a dollar bill or coin.
Has Congressman Issa produced one single productive bill in Congress that actually makes sense?
f you can't stand to hear more of Darrell Issa's antics, keep the San Diego County Democratic Party busy since they're the most local and active Democratic Party nearby Darrell Issa's area of residence (not to mention his local office).
Make sure you mark down this information and pass it on to others for firing up the base in California's 49th Congressional District if you want to target Issa for re-election and get voter registration drives going. If you can find someone in the CA-49 who can run against Issa in 2014, the more the merrier:
