To be clear, the Republican Party is not 'Pro-Choice.' They are, in fact, extremely Pro-Abortion. Their faux obsession with the 'right to life' is nothing more than window dressing for their voter/donor base. That's all. They truly don't give a shit.
They may cloak it in some 'Because Jesus' ideological mind fuck, but their attacks on 'Family Planning' are nothing more than crass posturing for votes and money. And they know it.
It's really quite impressive, their charade. To maintain a straight face while claiming to both 'protect life' and reduce government spending while they are fully aware that their policies will in fact have the opposite effect takes serious balls. I'll give 'em that much.
A study released by the Guttmacher Institute revealed the following:
> Publicly funded contraceptive services prevented 2.2 million pregnancies in 2010: 1.1 million would have resulted in unplanned births, and 760,000 would have resulted in abortions.
>Without publicly funded contraceptive services, the rate of unintended pregnancy, unplanned birth and abortion would be 66% higher, while the rate for teens would be 73% higher.
>By helping avoid these unintended pregnancies, there was a net public savings of $10.5 BILLION dollars.
>Every dollar spent on contraceptive services saves $5.68.
Now, here's the thing: if I know this, they know this. They don't give a fuck about 'stopping abortion', nor do they actually give a rat's ass about public spending. It's just more red meat to throw to their rabid, factually-challenged base.
They've seen these numbers before, but attacking Planned Parenthood on Fox 'news' is worth more to them than actually reducing abortions or saving money.
