More mushrooms that were not at Woodstock
The Daily Bucket is a place where we post and exchange our observations about what is happening in the natural world. Birds, blooms, bugs & more - each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us.
August 2013
Last August I did a bucket called Mushrooms That Weren't at Woodstock.
Now I have more mushrooms, and after looking at the photos from last year, I realize these are all different. Maybe it's from being on a different mountain - last year was Clinch Mt; this year is Comer Mt. Both are located in southwest Virginia.
This year I am just posting the photos and not spending all that time figuring them out. Lazy huh? Or maybe because I got home last night after 2 months away and have a lot of house and yard work to do. Either way, please read the informative bucket from last year if you wish to learn a little about mushrooms.
More down below....
I'm told that the Virginia mountains had record rainfall this summer. It sure looks like it. No doubt all that rain brought out lots of mushrooms.
These photos were taken with my iPhone 4. Blues and purples are never accurate so I don't know exactly what color this one was, but it's close.
Looks a bit rubbery huh?
This yellow-orange is on its final days. They get darker with age.
Sorta looks like coral. The top piece is laying on its side to show the structure.
Nestled inside an old tree trunk.
This one may have been in the previous bucket but shape varies quite a bit.
I thought this was interesting how the color changes with age and the white rim turns black.
These were in an open sunny area - actually on the dike that was put in to create Hale Lake. Soil is compacted, plus someone had burned there. Looks like those conditions appealed to these tho.
And lastly, this snail the grandson spotted climbing up a pine. It appears to be eating a fungus or lichen of some sort.
Nearing 80º in Tallahassee and headed to 90, humidity above 90%, t-storms likely. I'll be in and out doing things in the yard and checking on the armadillo damage. What a mess! They dug up a bunch of plants I had started. Thankfully I had put a cage around the butterflyweed and that survived. Guess I should close the windows soon after letting the house air a bit. And the first bird I heard this morning was a Red-bellied Woodpecker. Welcome home it called. Bless you I replied.
And The Daily Bucket is now open for your thoughts and observations...
