Received this e-mail today from Senator Kay Hagan (D. NC) regarding Social Security:
One in five North Carolinians, including 1.2 million retired workers and more than 300,000 disabled workers in our state, received Social Security last year alone.
The numbers are even more staggering if you look at the whole picture. In America as a whole, 37 million retired workers, nearly 9 million disabled workers, and more than 6 million survivors in this country received Social Security benefits.
It’s irresponsible and downright reckless to threaten seniors’ Social Security.
I refuse to be a part of the first generation of Americans to go back on the promise of Social Security. And I need your help in the grassroots push to protect this vital part of the safety net. Click here to add your name right now:

Thank you for joining me.

Hagan, who opposes the chained CPI, is joined by Senators Jeff Merkley (D. OR), Mark Udall (D. CO), Sherrod Brown (D. OH) and Congressman Gary Peters (D. MI-14) in their call to protect Social Security. You can click here to to sign Hagan's petition:
