Warm thanks to Sara R and everyone else who helped make my Daily Kos Quilt!
Here's an image, from Sara R:

This is the very first time in more than 10 years that I've ever embedded an image in a diary or comment!! Gosh, the new Image Library is elegant!
Apologies that I couldn't figure out (despite 15 minutes of study) how to add metadata to the image. It's probably not so important here, but I understand why it's generally important.
It's COOL to finally figure out how to use images.
I'm disjointed and tired. I installed a wireless network in my home today, and what I thought would be a 1-hour breeze turned into an 8-hour ordeal of epic proportions. For the benefit of some local user groups, I wrote a monumental description of the ordeal, featuring . . . oh only the geekiest would care. And then I had a grueling prospective client intake interview. So I'm kind of fried.
But the quilt arrived today! I had to rush to extend this thanks.
It's a 5 x 5 quilt, in greens & golds, at my request. Amazing how such an item fits into such a small box.
Sara, thanks for addressing the box to Me, Esq. I always appreciate that. I got the box in my mailbox today and my first thought was, who in (such and such a state) named R. knows both my home address and that I'm a lawyer? Took a moment to realize it must be The Quilt.
It's GORGEOUS. My wife, in particular, said to tell everybody she was "awestruck." We have several custom quilts. This is the most beautiful. We both studied it for the first time in a darkened room in red and golden light from the setting sun, dappled by moving clouds, on a beautiful fall-like day.
I'm very moved and uplifted by the many kind messages written into the quilt from my fellow Kossacks. Thanks! I know I can be an asshole. To see so many be so kind, including a few people I've tussled with, makes me think this really is a community. In any event, it's an important community for me.
Sara: how do you write the messages onto the quilt? Ink? Paint? It's amazing how nicely and perfectly that is done.
This was a great labor of love. The Quilt Project is a wonderful kind of ministry.
Update: Two days ago I was informed that one of my surgeons has a conflict and my surgery is "indefinitely postponed." It was supposed to be September 4th. They'll reschedule as soon as possible, but it might be a month or two. I suspect they had a sudden dire emergency with a cancer patient, as one of the surgeons said sometimes happens. Although my surgery is extremely serious, with a high risk of complications, they still believe they can heal me, and delaying me a few more months is not as dangerous as delaying for some people. I understand that.
But darn! That was hard on the nerves, after doing so much to get emotionally and logistically prepared. I'll let you all know what happens.
Now I'm going to admire the quilt some more. Not sure where to put it. It's too nice to leave draped over a chair gathering dust. On the other hand, I don't want to have it framed, I want to use it as a lap-quilt. Have to think about that.
