David Waldman (a.k.a Kagro in the Morning) and I had the opportunity to sit down with former Sen. Byron L. Dorgan, one of the hardest fighters for working-class America during his many years in the Congress, to discuss a wide range of issues, including his latest techno thriller (written with David Hagberg),
Gridlock. (Note: A review of Gridlock will be featured on these pages next Sunday.) Today we feature a discussion with Sen. Dorgan about his new book, which offers a compelling protagonist—a small town North Dakota sheriff named Nate Osborne—and a timely story: The United States is threatened by a cyberterrorism threat to the national powergrid.
We were also able to discuss pressing current issues, including financial regulation (Sen. Dorgan's famous dissent in 1999 against the financial deregulation championed by then-Secretary of the Treasury Lawrence Summers was amazingly prescient), raising the minimum wage, investing in our national infrastructure, the filibuster and much much more.
