Lonegan is the quintessential TEA Partier, and I could kiss him for that.
His political extremism is breathtakingly honest in its rampaging selfishness. For a list of some of his past statements on a variety of fiscal and social safety net questions, please check out this article from Crooks and Liars. Not included on their Lonegan's greatest hit list is Lonegan bemoaning Governor Rick Perry's attempt to back track when he called Social Security a Ponzi scheme. Lonegan double downed and called Social Security a Ponzi scheme.
My favorite was Lonegan's apparent unhappiness with government assistance during Hurricane Sandy. Next to the "if you get cancer that is your problem, not mine" statement, it is the closest you are ever going to get to exposing the underlying principle of some in the TEA Party - I've got mine, fuck you if you can't get yours!
Pure unadulterated selfishness.
With all the bigots in the TEA Party, I think most miss the economic message of every man for himself that is a tenet of modern conservatism. The bigots and Obama haters make good copy, but Lonegan will help put the spotlight on the bring back the Social Darwinism of the 19th Century that the TEA Party advocates.
