Tonight John hosts Neal Thompson from 8/5.
Steven will have Robin Thicke from 8/6.
There are no more repeats, only Zuul.
I mean premptions.
Some people liked Song of the Summer (Parts One, Two, Three, Four, and extra exclusive web content)
I think it's sad Viacom didn't bother to fund an actual live event.
So today someone asked me how I gained the self confidence to proclaim that I don't care what people think about me on the internet (though it's true enough in real life too).
Is it because you post behind a pseudonym?
I should perhaps preface this by saying that it actually occured in meatspace so don't bother clogging up the search engine.
Nope, that's just the way I am.
I think it started with my definitive break with religion when I was twelve, originally limited to Christianity but now extending to Wicca and all spritual nonsense including Mammon worshiping rattle shaking Shamen economists who believe in animal market spirits and invisible bond vigilantes and confidence fairies.
Self deluding liars the lot.
My misanthropy was not improved by anthropology where in the first class was Harlow's Monkeys.
"Do they have any relevance to human behavior?", said my professor.
"Of course the experimenters think they do", said I. "Otherwise they would not have designed the experiment that way."
An hour and a half later having defended myself against the whole class and the professor he pulled me aside and said- "In the future I'd appreciate you make any comments in writing."
Hey, if you can't stand up to a snot nosed undergrad with the whole class behind you, what exactly to you have to teach me again?
And yet I have a life. Enough people think I'm charming to get me elected Capo di Tutti. My friends seem glad to see me and cats rub up on me and dogs come over to be petted. Children seem not to recognize I like them best par-boiled and barbecued. I keep my horns carefully polished and my hooves cleaned and shined. I know which fork is for salad and which for dessert. I golf and ski and follow yachting and Formula One (Spa this week) and in general can pass in polite company while keeping my opinions to myself.
Mostly.
