There is some scientific evidence that intense, rhythmic music helps people do more intense exercise, which also seems to make the exercise seem "easier" from the exerciser's perspective. Who knew? ... “The bottom line is that if you increase the beat frequency people tend to go faster or work harder,” says Porcari. “By listening to music, people tend to enjoy exercise more because they focus less on their breathing and perceive it to be less taxing. Music can encourage people to exercise harder.” http://www.acefitness.org/...
There are also some studies showing that music can help improve your mood, which when you're trying to do something difficult, like lose weight, can help, too. "Scientists at the University of Missouri have found that people can boost their mood simply by listening to upbeat music." http://www.healthline.com/...
I don't often exercise to music, other than occasionally dancing along for a bit if I hear a song I like on the radio, but I see the appeal. There are even exercise programs, like Jazzercise and Zumba, that are all about dancing. Do you exercise to music? What's your favorite music to exercise to?
