Republicans, the NRA, and the Pueblo Chieftain are outraged that people are trying to do something about mass gun-fueled murders.
As
noted last week, Colorado recall target Sen. Angela Giron has had to contend with ornery assholes at her hometown paper.
During Colorado's gun debate, the general manager of the Pueblo Chieftain, Giron's hometown newspaper, wrote to her opposing the gun control measures, identifying himself as a gun owner who is "responsible for the entire newspaper, including the newsroom."
"They reign here in Pueblo," Giron said of the newspaper's influence in her district. "The new general manager sends me an email while we're debating the legislation, and he says, 'I want you to know that I'm not only in charge of the newspaper but every piece of news that goes out, and I don't like these gun laws, and I don't want you to vote for them.'"
Executives at the paper didn't just
sign recall petitions, but family members donated money toward the effort. And their efforts against Giron have been blatant, such as hyping a
frivolous ethics complaint against the senator with a top-of-the-fold lead story (among
other things).
Imagine having to deal with your own personal Fox News in your state Senate district. It's one of the reasons that the race remains tight heading into the final week (and change) of the race.
Chip in $3 to prevent the NRA and Fox News-wannabee Pueblo Chieftain from replacing Giron with one of their garden-variety crazies. Time is running short. The time to act is now.
