I guess I shouldn't have been too surprised by this, but I was. Today it was announced that the Democratic candidate for Governor in SC, Vincent Sheheen, believes that marriage should be one-man/one-woman. I shouldn't have been surprised because Sheheen voted twice in the Senate (2005 and 2007) to ban gay marriage in the state and place it in the state constitution.
I realize that this statement and his votes are about getting elected. Hell, he might even believe that gay people in his state don't deserve the same rights as everyone else. However, no democrat stands a chance in this state unless they act like a right of center Republican. Even Sheheen's recent endorsement of the Obamacare exchanges is seen as hurting him politically. This just goes to show that gay people in SC still have a LONG way to go before they are respected. All the while we'll still be subsidizing the privileges of all of our heterosexual neighbors.
