Rarely do you get an admission that fomenting hatred against LGBT people is a lucrative business, but the Liberty Council's Matt Barber recently did just that in a spittle-flecked rant posted at that den of deep thought, the World Net Daily.
The recent flap over an Oregon bakery that has been under investigation by the Oregon Department of Justice for its refusal to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian couple has become a cause célèbre for Christian extremists. Barber begins his ugly tirade with a made up scenario in which the gay owners of a bakery refuse to sell a cake to the Westboro Baptist Church.
The Oregonian is reporting that Bruce Bottoms – a homosexual baker and owner of “Cakes By Cupcakes” – has been charged with anti-Christian discrimination by the Oregon Ministry of Human Rights (OMHR). Mr. Bottoms and his partner, Lance Limpkowski, recently declined to bake a cake for the notoriously anti-”gay” Westboro Baptist Church (WBC). As a result, they’ve been forced to shut down their business.
Isn't that clever how he made up ugly little names to illustrate his point. It's lovely to see that the art of the 4th grade taunt lives on. In the article, Barber goes on with the usual blathering about Christians being persecuted because they aren't being given carte blanche to discriminate in the public arena any longer. He winds up his whinefest admitting something most of us knew all along. The hate is real and a great deal of fun for him, but it also happens to be a dandy little money-maker.
"Christians aren’t 'discriminating' against you because of your 'sexual orientation.' We just refuse to endorse sinful lifestyles, behaviors, messages or events. And guess what. It’s our constitutional right to do so. The First Amendment trumps your newfangled 'sexual orientation non-discrimination laws.' Yet even if it didn’t, God’s law supersedes man’s law. Every time. But, hey, there is a bright side. It does keep me busy. It’s job security. It’s sending my kids to college. Every time you go after a Christian business owner, it gives guys like me tons of ammunition. I get to demonstrate from the rooftops that you’re a bunch of homofascists. You don’t want the world to know that you’re a bunch of homofascists, do you? Still, this was never about preventing “discrimination.” It’s always been about worldview – about mandating, under penalty of law, affirmation of a demonstrably destructive and sinful lifestyle. 'Tolerance' enforcement. The Gaystapo cometh. Celebrate diversity, y’all! Or else."
Bolding mine
To say that Barber appears confused by law, Constitutional rights and the separation of church and state is the understatement of the year. However obscenely hateful, wrong and childish his words are, he nails it with dead-on accuracy how many pockets get deeply filled in this line of work. The fact that this filthy lucre is earned on the backs of real human beings whose real lives are damaged by these actions is entirely lost on this "man of God."
