I'm going to show you where my dad lives in Denver
I went to visit my dad in Denver from last Thursday through yesterday. I hadn't been back there to visit in 3 years. He came to visit me about one and one-half years ago when I was just starting to go through a pretty big medical situation of several months. My dad is 86 years old, so I really need to visit him more often.
He, his wife Ann and I had a great time. I thought I'd show you some pictures of my visit to give you an idea of the part of Denver he lives in, which is due east of downtown. I can ride a bike from his home to downtown in 15 minutes, just to give you an idea of the proximity. Here's a picture of my dad's home. He bought this home in 1976. As you can see it's quite modest and built of brick which was the law in Denver from 1865 until 1964. The reason is old Denver burned down. Of course it was all wood and thus they made a law that all homes and buildings had to be made of brick.

Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of their evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, interesting videos, and so forth. We would also appreciate links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate.
Please note that pie fights will be unwelcome in this community, just as in most other series at DKos.
Finally, readers may notice that most who are posting diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but that definitely does not mean that newcomers will be excluded or unwelcome. We're happy to welcome guests to our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
KTK posts nightly at 5:00 Pacific, 6:00 Mountain, 7:00 Central, 8:00 Eastern.
In the neighborhood where dad lives there has been a trend to take the existing homes and "pop-top" them, which means to make a one story home, which they all are, into a two or three story home. That is actually not all that common however as what happens far more frequently...homes are bought as "scrap-offs," meaning they are gotten rid of and a new big home is built. The picture below is the home two doors down from my dad's house. I prefer the small, one story, non-pretentious homes like this and dad's.
Here are some pictures of homes around my dad's that are of the new breed. They are being sold in the range of $1.2-1.8 million.
WELL, I will admit it is a super area to live. No need to drive on freeways stuck in traffic to get to Denver. Anything you'd ever want to do...or anything you need is very close. My dad has driven less than 18,000 miles in the past three years. There are beautiful parkways all around. Here is 6th Avenue Parkway which is four blocks from dad's home. There are advantages in living in an old part of Denver.
Here is the park one block from dad's house in the first picture below. The next two pictures below that are from a park 9 blocks directly west from dad's home. It is called "sundial park" but it's real name is Cramner Park named after the most famous parks director in Denver's history. The sundial, about 8 feet tall, was exactly one hour off because it is daylight savings time and hence the sun is not where it should be in the sky. Wait...our clocks aren't right compared to where the sun is in the sky. One thing about Denver is there are a lot of parks and they really keep them up...always have...most have gorgeous flower gardens.
Six blocks south and one block east of dad's home is where he buys his fruits and veggies from a mom-and-pop store. Of course only the best and freshest is found here.
To finish this little picture show of my dad's neighborhood is this sculpture in a backyard. This baby is at least 15 feet high and of equal diameter.
Oh yeah, dad took me to see the first game of the NFL season...the Ravens vs. the Broncos. What a blast! I'm gonna give a report about that for my New Day this Thursday. There was a lightning delay of 33 minutes...but so? The first half was just awful. The refs were clearly out of practice and the Broncos looked like crap. They were down 17-14. Then they came out in the second half. All I can say is they must have taken the "blue and orange pill" because it was a record setting 7 TD display by Manning...wow...wow...wow.
What's up? What ya want to kibitz about?
