Dear Representative Capps;
Again, I am reminded of why I like to vote for you. As a veteran, father, and antiwar activist I especially appreciate this sentence in your letter:
"As someone who voted against the Iraq war, I believe that any commitment of U.S. military forces must always be considered with the greatest of care and, furthermore, be the last resort to achieving the goal of safeguarding our national security."
The fact is, more and more of the so-called Syrian “rebels” are radical Islamists. History tells us that people like this, frankly speaking, need a dictator. Saddam Hussein kept Iraq stable, modern, and relatively peaceful. Ex-President Bush's vanity war not only cost us thousands of lives and trillions of dollars, but left Iraq a destabilized mess, which it will remain until the next dictator takes over. Meanwhile, for all of our sacrifice, it is the Chinese who are reaping the profits of Iraq's oil.
Syria is like Iraq but worse. I am sure you have been briefed about the fact that Syria is an absolute tangled mess of ethnicities, religions, and factions. It is the kind of country that needs a dictator to stay stable, and keeping it stable is not our job. It is the duty of Syrians to sort out their problems, and as long as Islam stays in the game, it's far better for us to stay on the sidelines. I absolutely 100% do not approve of meddling with their revolutionary war. I frankly don't care what they do. Let them be an example to the world. Saudi Arabia has plenty of money; so do all the other Gulf states. Let them put their money and their lives on the line.
We have our own problems here at home, and the money that is being spent maintaining United States warships in the Mediterranean, United States soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq, and United States military bases all over the world would be much better spent improving our schools, our healthcare, and our infrastructure right here at home.
sincerely,
Montino Bourbon
