Or so says the representative from the Colorado Oil and Gas Association in talking with 9News. They don't have the video up yet (and not sure they will) but the main station is at http://9news.com.
http://www.9news.com/... is what they do have up, an interview with the head of the Colorado Dept. of Natural Resources. It's just a short piece, but 9News did interview a woman spokesperson this afternoon from COGA who said that every well was being monitored several times a day and that there have been no (voice drops when she says "significant") leaks and they have so many crews on hand they're actually helping with other rescue efforts because they're not needed for spills from wells. She said multiple times what she needs is not just photos, but locations for where the photos are so they can go try and deal with any problems found. She basically said that there are only a couple of empty storage tanks that are leaking and her organization will be posting updates on their website about every reported problem and what action is being taken. As of a couple of minutes ago, however, I found nothing at their website addressing anything current at all.
Now I'm not an expert and I don't have contradictory evidence at hand. I just hear her basically say "nope, no significant leaks, no problems" and I just hear BP, Exxon Mobil, Shell and all the other companies that have had environmental disasters and I hear nothing different. Do I think she drinks water from wells in the fracking zone? Not before and not after the floods. Do I think she'll eat food from fields in the flood zone again? Do I think she would risk her family on the basis of what a big business PR Flack has to say? No, not really.
I'm just posting this to help those know that the local media is acknowledging the attention social media is helping to bring to this. They pushed her a little saying that social media has been "blowing up" or similar language about reported problems. The same crew of reporters were amazed when they saw a huge feedlot in Greeley (one of many in the downstream area from the worst of the flooding, but where the waters all have and are heading). Sure it's a 500 year (or worse) flood event, but to try and assure people there's nothing to worry about just because meaningful measurements haven't been conducted yet is irresponsible. People like her make me sick because they've sold their moral souls to Devil Greed.
