Commander Cruz ain't winning
There isn't much meat on
this report, but if it's true, it suggests that some Republicans are talking amongst themselves about getting out of their current trap:
Representative Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, a senior House Republican, told Reuters: "People are talking about a 10-day CR," a so-called continuing resolution to fund the government through October 10.
The story doesn't say it explicitly, but Capito must be talking about a clean CR, like the one the Senate is sending back over, except the Senate's version would last 45 days instead of 10.
Ten days is an absurdly short amount of time to kick the can down the road, but the fact that at least some House Republicans are talking about it is yet another illustration of the fact that they are bluffing when it comes to shutting down the government or breeching the debt ceiling. Eventually they're going to have to fold, and the sooner they do, the better off everybody will be.
