As someone who studies history both here and abroad, this situation with the Affordable Care Act is all too familiar. The conservative movement did the same amount of grandstanding, obstructing, whining and bitching when Social Security and Medicare were first passed. Granted, they were about three decades apart, but in both cases, whining and bitching were afoot, just as it is today.
I suppose there is a slight difference today, though. They seem to have figured out a way to keep the dog and pony show going indefinitely while doing just enough to maintain our terminally ill, cancer stage economy just so they can keep receiving br....I mean campaign contributions while watching the rest of us burn.
With all that said, how will this bill help me? I'm disabled, and as a consequence of that I'm also chronically unemployed. I can't seem to navigate the system in any way, shape or form (Been denied social security every time I applied for it, that's 10 times), and of course, I live in Flori-Duh, where 'socialized medicine' scares the hell out of old people even though many have medicare themselves. Any help would be appreciated.
See you around,
Homer
