Update: In response to North Madison's comment I called back and spelled out the subsidy question very specifically. I was put on hold for about five minutes. When she came back, she gave me a firm MAYBE. It depends on our income. We may get the subsidy, may not, but won't know until we go through the entire application process. That may not gel with Consumer Reports, but it was what I was told and I could tell she was reading from a paper. She then confirmed a definite maybe depending on our combined income.
Very short diary, but I need to get to work. Had to post this first.
There was a lot of confusion here last week about whether or not your spouse could go through the ACA for insurance if you had insurance through your employer. In my case, my premium falls below the 9.5% threshold but adding my husband caused our premiums to jump to 30% of my income. I'd called the hotline, gotten one answer but other callers received different ones. Today I called the hotline, got in pretty quick (say Representative when prompted). The wonderful lady told me my husband absolutely could get his own insurance through healthcare.gov. In fact, she had signed up several families in that very manner yesterday. So Yeah!!! This will save us hundreds of dollars every month.
