Reposted from yesterday with confirmation from BBC NEWS!!!
Reports are coming in that 106 supposedly "lost" Dr. Who episodes are being held hostage in Ethiopia. President Obama is threatening to send in the Navy SEALS to rescue them...
Okay, the "hostage" and "SEALs" part I made up.
But the real news is that maybe all the 106 lost episodes from the Hartwell and Troughton days have apparently been found in the possession of the Ethiopian Radio and Television Agency and in Sierra Leone. Ethiopia has long claimed to possess the original Arc of the Covenant...now it seems they have more holy relics!
These episodes were lost in an ill considered clean out of the BBC archives and thought to be lost forever. But dedicated fans have searched for them for years, and apparently found them.
BBC is negotiating their return. What a wonderful 50th anniversary gift for Dr. Who!

NOTE: For those who weren't clear on it, yesterday's diary covered some internet/crappy newspaper rumors that 106 episodes were found in Ethiopia (and possibly also Sierra Leone). Many of us expressed skepticism since BBC wasn't reporting on it at all. Now BBC has reported on it but without the details that were included in the earlier reports. But what is clear is that there has been a re-discovery of at least some episodes, possibly all.
