Welcome to the Bibliophile's Wish List!
A showcasing of newly released books in multiple formats by Authors I've newly discovered or have loved for some time. These books will eventually grace my bookshelves (virtual or otherwise) and yes, I know, I keep adding to your TBR shelves - but you love me anyway!
Now, on to the wonderous new books.
These books have released this past Tuesday, October 8th. I am a touch heavy this week with six books, because there are so many that I would love to add to my shelves. Hopefully you will too!
The Eye of Minds (The Mortality Doctrine #1) by James Dashner
James Dashner is by far one of my FAVORITE authors and his first series, The Maze Runner will soon have it's first feature film coming out next September. The Eye of Minds is the first book in the Mortality Doctrine series, and from what I've heard and anticipated it will be just as thrilling a ride as The Maze Runner series, all of which I read in a total of three days. YES, I read each of the 3 main stories in this series in a day! Decidedly looking forward to adding this to my ever growing shelf.
Michael is a gamer. And like most gamers, he almost spends more time on the VirtNet than in the actual world. The VirtNet offers total mind and body immersion, and it’s addictive. Thanks to technology, anyone with enough money can experience fantasy worlds, risk their life without the chance of death, or just hang around with Virt-friends. And the more hacking skills you have, the more fun. Why bother following the rules when most of them are dumb, anyway?
But some rules were made for a reason. Some technology is too dangerous to fool with. And recent reports claim that one gamer is going beyond what any gamer has done before: he’s holding players hostage inside the VirtNet. The effects are horrific—the hostages have all been declared brain-dead. Yet the gamer’s motives are a mystery.
Emerald Green (Precious Stones Trilogy #3) by Kerstin Gier, Anetha Bell (Translation)
This is the third book in the Precious Stones series by Kerstin Gier, translated by Anetha Bell from its original German. This is the story of Gwen, who has a destiny to fulfill but no one will tell her what it is. This story picks up where Sapphire Blue left off in Gwen's story.
Gwen has a destiny to fulfill, but no one will tell her what it is.
She’s only recently learned that she is the Ruby, the final member of the time-traveling Circle of Twelve, and since then nothing has been going right. She suspects the founder of the Circle, Count Saint-German, is up to something nefarious, but nobody will believe her. And she’s just learned that her charming time-traveling partner, Gideon, has probably been using her all along.
This stunning conclusion picks up where Sapphire Blue left off, reaching new heights of intrigue and romance as Gwen finally uncovers the secrets of the time-traveling society and learns her fate.
The Walking Dead: The Fall of the Governor Part One (The Governor Series #3) by Robert Kirkman, Jay Bonansinga
With season 4 premiering tonight on AMC, I figure adding this to today's list would be fitting. Book 3 in the Governor series is now out in multiple formats. I have yet to get my hands on the other books in this series, but I am a fan of the series and, while I am looking forward to the season permiere tonight I am also looking forward to getting this book and the others that go with it.
In Rise of the Governor, uber-villain Philip Blake journeyed from his humble beginnings directly into the dark heart of the zombie apocalypse, and became the self-proclaimed leader of a small town called Woodbury. In The Road to Woodbury, an innocent traveler named Lilly Caul wound up in the terrifying thrall of Phillip Blake’s twisted, violent dictatorship within Woodbury’s ever tightening barricades.
And now, in The Fall of the Governor, the Governor’s complex story continues in a tour de force of action and horror. Iconic characters from the comic book, including Rick, Michonne and Glenn, finally make their entrance onto this nightmarish stage, and fans of The Walking Dead will see these characters in a whole new light.
Confessions: The Private School Murders (Confessions #2) by James Patterson
I love James Patterson's novels, and this one is sure to keep me on edge as much as the rest of them. This is the second book in the Confessions series, and another case for Tandy Angel. What better than to indulge in solving murders and investigating the skeletons in the Angel family closet!
Wealthy young women are being murdered, and the police aren't looking for answers in the right places. Enter Tandy Angel. Her first case was the mystery of her parents' deaths. Now she's working to exonerate her brother of his girlfriend's homicide. And danger just got closer. One of the recent victims was a student at Tandy's own elite school. She has a hunch it may be the work of a serial killer... and Tandy perfectly fits the profile of the killer's targets. Can she untangle the mysteries in time? Or will she be the next victim? James Patterson keeps the confessions coming as Tandy delves deeper into her own tumultuous history and the skeletons in the Angel family closet.
Camelot's Court: Inside the Kennedy White House by Robert Dallek
In anticipation of the fiftieth anniversary of Kennedy's assassination, Robert Dallek has released yet another stunning book that will provide us with an insider's look at the brain trust whose contributions to the successes and failures of Kennedy's administration-including the Bay of Pigs, civil rights, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and Vietnam-were indelible.
Kennedy purposefully put together a dynamic team of advisers noted for their brilliance and acumen, including Attorney General Robert Kennedy, JFK's "adviser-in-chief"; Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara; Secretary of State Dean Rusk; National Security Adviser McGeorge Bundy; and trusted aides Ted Sorensen and Arthur Schlesinger. Yet the very traits these men shared also created sharp divisions. Far from unified, JFK's brain trust was an uneasy band of rivals whose personal ambitions and clashing beliefs ignited fiery debates behind closed doors. With skill and balance, Dallek illuminates a president deeply determined to surround himself with the best and the brightest, yet who often found himself disappointed with their recommendations. The result is a striking portrait of a leader whose wise resistance to pressure and adherence to personal principles, particularly in matters of foreign affairs, offers a cautionary tale for our own time.
The Rejected Stone: Al Sharpton and the Path to American Leadership by Al Sharpton
Reverand Al Sharpton has had his ups and downs publicly, and ultimately he has released his first book in over a decade. This one, ultimately, I want upon my shelves because I've respected this man for as long as I can remember, and I watch his show as often as I can.
In this, his first book in over a decade, Reverend Al will take you behind the scenes of some unexpected places – from officiating Michael Jackson’s funeral, hanging out with Jay-Z and President Barack Obama at the White House, to taking charge of the Trayvon Martin case. And he will discuss how he came to his unexpected conclusions in such areas as immigration, gay rights, religion and the family.
But the heart of this book is an intimate discussion of his own personal evolution from street activist, pulpit provocateur and civil rights leader to the man he is today – one hundred pounds slimmer, and according to the New York Observer, “the most thoughtful voice on cable.”
No, the Reverend Al you met ten years ago isn’t the same man you’ll meet today. And he has a simple promise. We can transform this nation and we can all lead better lives if we’re willing to transform our hearts and transform our minds.
