Monday!
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Ok, we have a current diary schedule. If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
Monday: BadKitties
Tuesday: bigjacbigjacbigjac
Wednesday: Caedy
Thursday: weck
Friday: FloridaSNMOM
Saturday:broths
Sunday: loggersbrat
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
In every group, whether it be a family, a class in school, or a social group, including online communities, it seems that people have regular roles. And, often, these same roles are the ones we play everywhere we go.
There's the class clown:
Bart Simpson, class clown
This is the person that feels the need to bring levity to learning, by fart noises, funny faces, or by finding the humor in almost in any situation. These are the people who derive pleasure and happiness from laughter, and can lighten many dark and serious moods. We have a few on DKos, but I'm not naming names =)
Then there is the gossip/Mean Girl/Mean Boy:
A helpful guide
These people think that knowledge, however small or mean or private, is power. My personal opinion is that gossips and Mean People are insecure, and seek to deflect from their own flaws by talking about other people's peccadilloes, real or imagined. I won't deny that occasionally gossip is interesting, but I'm totally in agreement with a bio that I saw on Twitter: "If you mention any Kardashian at any time, I will unfollow immediately." My sentiments exactly!! Nobody really needs Mean Girls or Mean Boys in their lives. Here on DKos, I think they're known as "concern trolls." No DKos Mean Girls or Mean Boys come to mind. I can think of plenty on the GOP side, though. Ugh.
There's the Nice Person That Everybody Loves:
Yes, seriously
Every group needs at least one. I know quite a few IRL, and there are many dearly beloved Kossacks. These are the people whose hearts overflow with kindness. You feel good just being near them, or reading their words. On DKos, Sara R and winglion come immediately to mind. They are the epitome of Nice People =) We have quite a few in IAN, too =)
And then, there are lots of categories that I am too tired to list. But I realized last night that I am still The Keeper of Secrets.
The Keeper of Secrets, a painting by Carol Chretien
I have been the Keeper of Secrets since third grade. It's not a role I ever sought; it just sort of happened. It's a deep and honorable position, although sometimes, it's a burden. Some people's secrets are hard to bear. But I am glad that people trust me. I will never betray their trust. Once broken, trust generally cannot be repaired.
What role do you play?
