Sunday, October 13, 2013: remember the date--Today a Senator from Texas and a failed Republican candidate for Vice President rallied at the Capitol in Washington with a Tea Party group under the Confederate Battle Flag. The elephant in the room has disrobed: this is, and has been from the beginning, all about RACE. The blind hatred of the racists who refuse to accept our President because of his skin color, are doing everything in their power to sabotage his Administration, even if their actions destroy the country.
The Confederate States of America have a website, a constitution, a membership, a flag. They are not a ghost of the 19th Century, they are active and marching on Washington. They have led the Speaker of the House of Representatives to work against the good faith and credit of the USA. Today they screamed at President Obama for shutting down the government, which they in fact accomplished by themselves.
We have three equal branches of government partly to insure that if one branch tries to arrogate all power to itself, it can be stopped. Someone in Congress must have the good sense to put these renegades out the door. What the anti-government legislators are doing is treasonous. They are against the government--they say so. Are we listening?
People hollering for States' Rights to supersede Federal laws are waving that Confederate Flag. Have we become so complacent we ignore that? Have we forgotten our recent--only three generations back--history?
We are not immune to the forces that crush and bleed countries into relics of their former glory. It's not an external force that threatens us, but our shameful past of enslavement and slaughter. Those among us who hold tight to the notion that righteousness is dependent on skin color need to be educated. Americans, particularly
Southerners of the oldest families, derive from many roots. There is only one race, the Human Race. We have a unique country: E Pluribus Unum. Out of many, One. That is our national motto. It's time we lived up to it.
