Senator Durban of IL was attempting to grill Cruz on HIS healthcare during Cruz’s twenty some odd hour senate floor obscurathon asking … “Will the senator from Texas for the record tell us now—and those who watched this debate—whether he is protected and his family’s protected?”.
“I’m happy to tell you now I am eligible for it and I am not currently covered under it,” Cruz responded, and then diverted attention elsewhere, from which I became of aware of it here, on Daily Kos.
Turns out Cruz is covered on his wife's plan. His wife is a Wall Street executive, a regional head of a Goldman Sachs division as reported on Daily Kos previously.
According to a 2009 New York Times report, top executive officers and managing directors at the bank participate in a health care program that costs Goldman more than $40,000 in premiums for each participant’s family annually.
So here we have Cruz masquerading as the populist voice for the downtrodden “conservative” white male, asserting to the peasantry that freedom means not having health insurance, from his perch, wrapped within a gold-plated cocoon.
Just speculating here, but perhaps we've could try something different and amend it along the way as needed; in essence, to join the rest of the civilized world.
Here’s what the Teabaggers would know about the affordable healthcare bill were they to stop listening to phony Pied Pipers like Ted Cruz who will never represent in any real fashion anyone of average means in this society:
-we overpay more than any other nation and rank 37th in terms of outcomes according to the World Health Organization
-all the other industrial nations on the planet have moved to some version of this and more Americans are medical tourists traveling elsewhere for care than are citizens of those nations traveling here for care in terms of medical tourism
-no one else in the world is adopting our approach to healthcare, and there’s a valid reason for that
-we all already pay for the uninsured anyway, just in very inefficient methods -that’s what this is all about
-American-based pharmaceutical companies charge Americans more for their product than citizens of other nations - and that‘s after US taxpayers already subsidize that continually profit record setting industry
-they would know that Massachusetts isn't on the verge of either economic collapse or revolution in the aftermath of a similar approach being implemented there by a Republican administration
-and they would know something "conservatives" seem to have forgotten - that this is a "conservative" plan birthed at the Heritage Foundation. They liked it once, now they rail against the same plan essentially
So what happened ya reckon?
But hey, in answering this question, you’re not allowed to broach the subject of race, because these people don’t do abject reality.
And far from following the supposed tenants of conservative ideology, rubes like these have forsaken personal responsibility as it relates to learning about this legislation that was passed by your “exceptional” nation and its best ever form of government. They don’t even take personal responsibility for doing their own thinking.
You will never learn anything via your 5 multinational corporation controlled status quo state propaganda media machine, where even so called pundits (Chuck Todd) renounce all responsibility for refuting lies and misinformation.
So a large segment of our population actively chooses to swallow, follow, and wallow in the mass produced 5 multinational corporation media owned fear, bigotry, ignorance and misery.
