Staffers in the Senate are waiting to hear whether their bosses will take their health insurance away next year, but one thing they know for sure: They won't be getting paid on Friday unless the shutdown ends.
“I regret any inconvenience these changes in your pay may cause you. The lapse in funding authority gives this office no choice in the matter,” wrote Financial Clerk of the Senate Christoper Doby to all Senate employees.
Not being able to pay the rent seems like a little more than a minor inconvenience.
A bill providing back pay for furloughed workers has passed the House but not the Senate. Maybe Senate staffers will now have a little extra motivation to push their bosses to pass that bill benefiting all furloughed federal workers.
