After today, one big question will be hanging over the country -- "What next?"
So many paths are open right now, and they are so tangled, that it is very hard to see the future. This is one of those points in history that has so many paths forward that even the best prognosticator will struggle to do more than shrug.
Will the GOP explode into a full, open intraparty civil war? Or will the factions snipe, but largely close ranks again to continue their lockstep opposition to anything Obama may try to accomplish? Will moderates be emboldened to reach across the aisle, or remain terrified of primary challenges and the lashings of right wing talk show hosts and pundits?
Will the Democrats be emboldened with this victory, and discover that sometimes standing strong is, in fact, a legitimate negotiating tactic, especially against a cowardly bully that is probably bluffing?
Will the general public remember this in a year's time? Will they remember the pain and havoc and uncertainty and drama caused by the Tea Party fanatics and their Republican enablers, and make their dissatisfaction known at the polls? Or will the next shiny thing distract them all and make this a distant memory by 2014?
Will people realize that they've been duped over the supposed horrors of the ACA? Will they realize what party brought it to them, and which party trumped up an economic crisis and held the world economy hostage to keep them uninsured?
So many paths can be taken after today...
What are your predictions? Whither does the country go after today?
