Over the jump: a smidgen of statistics, and a spotlight on the Congresscritters from my home state, Georgia.
46 U.S. Senators are Republican. 18 of them (39%) voted to continue the government shutdown, and to allow the USA to default.
Both Senators from Georgia (Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss) voted with 100% of Democrats and Independents to lift the debt ceiling and reopen the government.
232 members of the U.S. House of Representatives are Republican. 144 of them (62%) voted to continue the government shutdown, and to allow the USA to default. Zero Democrats voted for shutdown & default.
100% of Republican Representatives from Georgia voted for continued shutdown & default. Three of those are running for the Senate seat being vacated next year by retiring Saxby Chambliss; they are Paul Broun, Phil Gingrey, and Jack Kingston.
The leading Democratic candidates for that Senate seat are Steen Miles and Michelle Nunn (my choice).
