With all due respect to Charlie Pierce, these people aren't morons; they're zombies. They can't think, and all they want to do is make a meal out of anyone who isn't a zombie. You can't reason with them because their thought processes are minimal. At this point, anyone trying to do so is either a fool or a knave.

I'm definitely in the camp that we didn't win this one. We merely barricaded ourselves behind Constitutional principle and chopped off whatever appendages the zombies stuck through the holes in the barricade. I actually am impressed with Obama shutting down Harry Reid's attempt to allow Susan Collins to open the barricades, thereby letting in the zombie "compromisers". In this instance, Obama clearly understood the stakes he was playing for. (And, for those who know my writing, I do not say that lightly.)

The zombies will be back again in February. We aren't winning; we are merely beating back onslaught after onslaught. And each time, the number of zombies keeps growing. A wave of zombies living on the radioactive power source of Koch Brothers funding. They can't die, but they can sure kill our democracy.

This time, the Neo-confederate zombies controlled an entire house of our legislature for weeks - right down to the evangelical nutcase who grabbed the mike to spout Dominionist zombie gibberish on the floor of the House. This time they cut off $24 Billion of our nose (NEZ) to spite their face.

Our planet is literally burning down, while we spend our time beating off murderous brain-dead fanatics that have been let loose by the radical reactionary SCOTUS, and funded by Bircherite greedheads. It is a real-life horror movie. You may think its just another really scary reality TV show; but it just cost billions and damaged our country's standing in the world. And still, the lying shill corporate media is making excuses for them and giving the zombie-master, Ted Cruz all the free air time he wants. They might as well post the 800 number for his cannibalistic campaign to kill America.

If this rant has a point, it's this:

Who the fuck tries to negotiate or compromise with zombies?
I'm talking to you, Democrats. Do you think they are going to be less truculent after being stopped but not defeated? We didn't touch the core sickness of the GOP.  The zombies from the Neo-confederate countryside are still healthy, well-fed, and more zealous than ever in their belief that they fighting to save their America from the majority.

We need to fight right now to split the GOP and leave these zombies out in the open where we can target them without the cover of their fellow-travelling grifters and gangsters. We need to spend the next three months exposing these festering losers and dead-enders as the monsters they are.

They sure aren't Christians. They want children to starve or die of cancer. They want seniors to eat cat food while working until they drop. They want all workers to accept wages that, even with stingy government programs, are already slave wages.

They sure aren't lovers of our Constitution, as they just spent two weeks demonstrating via pre-planned, attempted extortion/sedition/nullification against Obamacare, topped off with Eric Cantor's slimy, dictatorial change to House Rules.

And, most of all, they are the most brazen, shameless liars and double-crossers ever to pass themselves off as champions of the people in the history of this country. That is even more true at the state level, where zombie legislatures, run by ALEC and the local gentry, are busy disenfranchising "the un-saved"(blacks, liberals, gays, women), destroying the social safety net, and literally selling towns off for scrap (Detroit) or privatizing them to escape paying their fair share.

The Congressional delegate zombies, once again, have a clock ticking towards February. They just did quite well, by their lights, playing this game; and nothing fundamental has changed for the zombies. They are still brainless kamikazes, who we must assume are planning more disruptive parliamentary firefights.

Given their M.O., I have no doubt these assholes will spend the next three months catapulting the propaganda from Faux Noise and the giant turd-mouth Limbaugh  That hate-mongering propaganda will be repeated in so-called evangelical pulpits that dare the IRS to shut them down.

In fact, that reminds me of one crack in the barricades that we must seal. The IRS has to remove the tax exemptions of so-called preachers who advocate the destruction of the government via Tea Party sedition. Of course, the NEZ will scream "jack-booted thugs" and all the rest; but this time, the country might actually look at the law and the facts and decide that its time to stop paying these un-Godly traitors via tax exemption.

Oh, that reminds me, where was the Catholic Church, that "champion of the working man" in the midst of all the misery inflicted on working people by this shutdown? Those non-zombies who are Catholic need to pressure the Catholic leadership - that pack of molester-protecting hacks, appointed by the misogynist-of-Rome, John Paul II - to give support to the American government they have professed to be defending ever since Pius XII gave Hitler a pass. Maybe we need a schism in the Catholic Church as well the GOP, to rescue it from its increasingly right-wing hierarchy.

Is there a theme here? Religion, zombies, religion, zombies. Could be.

Well, I'm more than happy to fight with anyone who takes offense at anything I have said.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  This is the thing about the Koch's funding now; (10+ / 0-)

The Kochs have money, but before they also had the other heads of business, Chamber of Commerce, and Wall Street following their lead because it all seemed like a good idea, and the Kochs we're smart guys. But all those other guys were finally scared shitless at the prospect of what was going on, and tanking the US and world economy. Now the Kochs may be ideologues and don't care, but the rest are interested in only business, and making a profit. And they are NOT going to put up with this shizz again - so the Kochs may very well be on an island alone, with the other business leaders actually fighting against them now. And they may also make a deal with Obama (if they haven't already), because his policies are now a hell of a lot closer to what they want (let's not forget the record corporate profits and Stock Market performance under Obama, which carries weight) than what the Teahadists are all about.

Businessmen take calculated risks to succeed and make a profit, but as a group they are not interested in taking insane risks for little profit, and risking losing everything if they fail. It's not good business.

if I were religious, I would say "Praise the Lord and pass the ammuntion." In other words, that would be great, but I'm not sitting back and relaxing.

There are no sure things anymore. The crazies are on the plane with guns drawn. The other businessmen have to organize a SWAT team and get it on-board before the crazies blow it up.

I'm all for sane businessmen. I just hope they aren't already too late.

The CoC and ALEC are going to up their game.

25 years ago, there were only two handful of people in the world with more than two billion dollars, and outside of Pablo Escobar, I doubt that a single one could have produced $100 million cash at the drop of a hat; it's mostly equity.

But when you have people worth $40 or $50 billion today, "mostly equity" translates into billions in cash. Or, guys who earn $1 billion or more in income a single calender year can drop $50 million into ALEC like we might spend $1000.

I'm living in America, and in America you're on your own. America's not a country. It's just a business.

letters to Congress on the subject of -poverty and the need to have a social safety net--but when it came to Obamacare that principle wasn't nearly as important to the Bishops as making damned sure that women didn't have access to birth control. I left the churc

Personally, I'd be much happier if ALL religions kept their paws off politics, but that ain't gonna happen.  My MiL voted for Sonny Perdue simply because he taught Sunday School. That was all she knew about him. If you live in the South you'd better be a fundamentalist Christian if you want to run for public office, and you better rpaise Jeezus long and loud/

But not all areas are the Bi8ble Belt--and in some areas of the country, liberal Christians actually are Democrats.

Of course, I can't help thinking that it's highly significant that they film The Walking Dead around Atlanta--all they need is the green make-up and some latex appliances.

The last time we mixed religion and politics people got burned at the stake.

  •  As far as pressuring the bishops, (0+ / 0-)

what are liberal Catholics supposed to do in terms of pressuring the Bishops. Threaten to primary them? Catholic Bishops are appointed by the Pope and are there until they die or the Pope wants them retire. And there have been three and half decades of conservative Popes doing the appointments. This Pope may swing back to the center, but that last two Pontiffs impact will last for a generation or two.

And as far as Pius XII giving Hitler a pass, I think it might be more accurate to say that he cynically and naively thought he could make things better for European Catholics by cutting a deal with Hitler. This is hardly the behavior that the so-called moral leader of the world should have been engaging in, but it's not that far removed from what neutrals like Switzerland and Sweden were doing, or for that matter, what the America Firsters wated for the US.

    •  They can point to the new Pope's new attitude... (0+ / 0-)

      towards social justice.

They can tell the bishops to get with the Pope's program and stop supporting the zombie agenda of misogyny, homophobia, and rigid anti-aboritionism.

Besides, I called for schism, not polite petitioning of power-hungry creeps and pedophiles. It is true, as you say, that the hierarchy is uniformly reactionary thanks to the last two popes. That is why schism is more likely than internal change.

As for Pius XII, you can weasel word it all you want; but he was missing in action as a spiritiual leader. As a spiritual leader, he is held to a different standard than a government when it comes to matters of mass murder. Don't we constantly hear the "obeying a higher law" line from the fundies? Is it only a higher law when it is the left that is being called out?

      •  The Catholic Church is so ossified, (1+ / 0-)
        Recommended by:

that any sort of rapid change is difficult. This pope IS trying to get them from obsessing about abortion and birth control, but his power over them is somewhat limited. If you remember, back when there were actually liberal bishops, the past reactionary popes did their best to keep them under control but couldn't always do it.

I'd appreciate it if you don't accuse me of using weasel words that let the Papacy off the hook. I barely survived my youthful encounter with the Sisters of Mercy (the religious order, not the band) and left the Catholic Church in my teens, so I am no mouthpiece for the CC.

I don't see what I said that was a defense of Pius XII - I clearly said that he thought he could do business with Hitler and somehow get a good deal out of it. I have a problem with those who say he was a Nazi sympathizer - he wasn't.  But I would certainly call much of his policy as Hitler enabling. But that didn't make him a Nazi, it made him a Nazi tool.

My hope for the CC, is that Pope Francis' conciliatory manner just might create the schism that you would like, but maybe not in the way you would like. I can see the ultra conservative walking out and joining the sedavacantists, leaving the CC to swing back to the center.

Your parsing of your first post cleared things up about Pius XII. Thanks.

I never considered that Pius's shirking was anything but pure betrayal of his spiritual principles. You correctly point out he was just being a bureaucrat, dealing with the Nazis as if they were just normal people. But  my nom d'plume, Hannah Arendt, famously wrote about "The Banality of Evil". I guess Pius was just another case in point.

I also was raised Catholic and got out as soon as I went to college. Unfortuanely, I have to deal w the CC at family events. And, I get random junk mailings from the crypto-Opus Dei outfit, the ?Newman Foujndation? But, it is all just background noise to me.

I too feel that we, as a democracy, are still in grave danger. Many in to media, and in politics, have been dancing around plainly saying what the GOP just attempted to pull off. The closest they've come is to use euphemisms like, 'majority rule' under threat. What the GOP just attempted was to establish a de facto tyranny. Think about that.

While I agree that far right zombies are still pressing on the barricade, I believe it inevitable they will begin eating each other. Twice now, the GOP's wealthy elites, big business, and Wall Street constituencies have watched the Teaparty zombies directly and clearly threaten their economic interests. So much so, even the Kochs were forced to publicly deny them.

The next debt showdown in January will, I think, force open civil war on the GOP. In the meanwhile, Dems. need to remain unified at the barricades, and keep the GOP zombies cordoned while they cannibalize each other. After, the fratricidal feeding frenzy is over, the Dems. should be well positioned to be afforded control of the government by voters. While the zombies will not become extinct, their power to damage the nation will be reduced to a level where they no longer present a true existential threat.
