A week and a half after the AP published a completely false report about Terry McAuliffe's involvement in an annuities fraud case, its reporter and his editor have been fired. These intrepid members of the press saw the initials T.M. in court documents, and leapt bravely to the conclusion that it HAD to be Terry McAuliffe. It wasn't.
Here is kat68's diary from when the epic blunder first came to light:
An excerpt from TPM today:
The Associated Press has fired a reporter and editor in connection to a false story alleging Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe lied to a postal inspector in a fraud scheme, according to The Huffington Post.http://talkingpointsmemo.com/...
The author of the report, which was retracted soon after it was published, Bob Lewis has been fired, the news services announced Monday. Dena Potter, a news editor for the Associated Press who covered Virginia and West Virginia, has also been fired.
Good riddance to these incompetent, if not corrupt newspeople.
