Ten Senate Democrats have written to the administration, asking that the
enrollment period for Obamacare be extended in light of the website glitches that have held back enrollments.
The signatories are: [Jeanne] Shaheen (D-NH), Mark Begich (D-AK), Mark Pryor (D-AR), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Kay Hagan (D-NC), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Mark Udall (D-CO), Tom Udall (D-NM), Michael Bennet (D-CO), and Martin Heinrich (D-NM).
Administration officials have told TPM that they are not actively considering an enrollment extension, though the administration is planning to move the enrollment deadline for avoiding the individual mandate penalty—currently Feb. 15—to March 31.
The administration has already
extended one deadline: previously, people would have had to enroll by Feb. 15 to avoid a tax penalty; the new deadline is March 31. With Friday's
announcement that the site is expected to be mostly fixed by the end of November, this additional delay will likely prove unnecessary.
