Good morning!
This is the weekly DKos Asheville open thread where we try to get together every Saturday morning around eleven, and then drift in and out throughout the day. We hope this group serves to reinvigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos, building on the sense of community that's grown through our online engagement. DKos Asheville can give us all a better sense of connection, a better understanding of who these people are that we stand with, work with, and share with in the political process. We hope, through this community, that we can do a better job of leveraging our orange passion for progressive politics to help elect more and better Democrats.
If you would like to host a weekly open thread, please let us know.
I have a meeting this morning, so I'm writing this last night. But I hope to check back in later today.
The meetup last Saturday was wonderful. The weather was great, and good food and conversation were plentiful. There were a number of folks who wanted to come but couldn't because other stuff was crowding their calendars; but we'll be looking for everyone at the next meetup in January. Randall wrote a great review of the meetup here with some great pics as well.
And our first voter registration event was this past Tuesday. Randall and I were the only club members who could make it; but we had a lot of fun, and were encouraged by the experience; so much so that we asked for and were given more dates on the calendar. Randall wrote a great review of that event as well, including a cool picture, here.
So the calendar is:
- Tuesday, October 29 - that's this coming Tuesday!
- Tuesday, November 5
- Tuesday, November 12
- Tuesday, November 19
- Tuesday, November 26
This past Tuesday we were out there from 3:00 until 6:00, and I guess we'll be keeping that same schedule. I do know that Randall will mostly likely run into conflicts with his work schedule, so please consider helping out.
As a reminder, we'll be outside the front entrance of Westgate Earthfare in Asheville.
Hmmm ... I think I can put Randall's picture from last Tuesday right here ...

Got the meetup group shot as well!
Enjoy your Saturday, and I hope to see some of you this Tuesday!
Good morning gentle readers! randallt here. Like David said above, we had two nice little events recently that proved fun, interesting and hopefully helpful. The voter registration project is very exciting. Like I mentioned in last week's diary about the project, I found the exercise challenging and rewarding. I'm looking forward to Tuesday to try it again and will be sure to report on our efforts.
Asheville made the national news this week, but not in a good way. Famous local Tea Bagger racist and Republican activist Don Yelton made us all cringe with an interview on The Daily Show.
I awoke to our first freeze of the season. When I went to let the ducks out this morning, the frost was glistening in the early morning sun. Just gorgeous.
Have a great day!
Here's a duck to make you smile.
