I am certainly not advocating violent revolution, but the parrallels of the event, and events currently unfolding are disturbing.
The roots of the French Revolution are complex and rooted in that time, and society, yet certain underlying causes can be pointed out, and they should worry the plutocracy, in their current mad drive toward corporate feudalism.
The first underlying cause was overexpenditure on the military, the country was nearly bankrupted by years of military expenses. Does this sound familiar?
The second underlier was climate change. Although that was a temporary change, it brought about crop failures, inflation in food prices, and hunger on a large scale. Again, sound familiar?
The third factor was an unaccountable, and totally indifferent, overclass, and government. When people started to go hungry, they did nothing, "Let them eat cake" (although to be fair to Marie, it was a wisecrack, made out of ignorance, not malice). Again, sound familiar?
We in the US are doing all these things, and the rethugs are doubling down on all of them. Where are we headed?
