Nick Offerman is an actor, best known as Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation. He has a newish book out
Paddle Your Own Canoe: One Man's Fundamentals for Delicious Living
Growing a perfect moustache, grilling red meat, wooing a woman—who better to deliver this tutelage than the always charming, always manly Nick Offerman, best known as Parks and Recreation’s Ron Swanson? Combining his trademark comic voice and very real expertise in woodworking—he runs his own woodshop—Paddle Your Own Canoe features tales from Offerman’s childhood in small-town Minooka, Illinois—“I grew up literally in the middle of a cornfield”—to his theater days in Chicago, beginnings as a carpenter/actor and the hilarious and magnificent seduction of his now-wife Megan Mullally. It also offers hard-bitten battle strategies in the arenas of manliness, love, style, religion, woodworking, and outdoor recreation, among many other savory entrees.
A mix of amusing anecdotes, opinionated lessons and rants, sprinkled with offbeat gaiety, Paddle Your Own Canoe will not only tickle readers pink but may also rouse them to put down their smart phones, study a few sycamore leaves, and maybe even hand craft (and paddle) their own canoes.
It sounds somewhat interesting, USA Today had a
Q&A with him about the book
Q. You often espouse your love of meat, woodworking and the great outdoors. Do you think you are Hollywood's authority on manliness?
A. No, God, not hardly. I try to address that question in the book by saying it's a little ridiculous that people accuse me of manliness since I'm the member of the family that went away to theater school and took a couple semesters of ballet. I try to have the characteristics in my personality that I associate not just with manliness, but decency and competence in our modern citizenry like good manners and a good work ethic, but I feel like the notion of manliness is somewhat misplaced these days. It's taken on an epic proportion where people seem to be envisioning manliness as an archaic notion that Clint Eastwood once wielded in his films in the 1970s, but is no longer found hiding in our metrosexual communities.
Q. What do you want readers to take away from Paddle Your Own Canoe?
A. First and foremost, it's meant to be entertaining. I would like for them to take away some chuckles. And the idea in attempting the book in the first place is the notion that I might impart some advice to the reader. My dad always told me that the best way to learn is to make a mistake, so by that token I should have learned a great deal and I hope that the benefit of my jackassery will be a boon to those reading the lessons I have to offer.
Orlando Bloom is an actor known as Legolas to a whole bunch LotR fans, I expect some LotR talk as two Hobbit movies will be arriving. Apparently he is splitting up with Miranda Kerr (like OMG really!!!). Yup, that is what is breaking news about the guy, I love our media. Prior to that he was giving interviews about the movie
Zulu
Orlando Bloom is set to give his fans a thrill in his next movie with a daring full frontal nude scene.
The Lord of the Rings star has revealed he spent seven days on the set of new film Zulu wearing "just a c--- sock".
Thank You for that
Toronto Sun. Oh you actually want to know about the movie?
As a child, Ali Neuman narrowly escaped being murdered by Inkhata, a militant political party at war with Nelson Mandela's African National Congress. Only he and his mother survived the carnage of those years. But as with many survivors, the psychological scars remain. Today, Ali is chief of the homicide branch of the South African police in Cape Town. One of his staff is Brian Epkeen, a free-wheeling white officer whose family was originally involved in the establishment of apartheid but who works well with Neuman. Together they have to deal with crime that inevitably exists in sprawling areas of un -and under- employed people, crime exacerbated by gangs, both local and from other parts of Africa. Their job gets even more difficult when the corpses of two young women are found. A new evil has been introduced in the city and a new drug has been introduced to its residents, including both murder victims.
At least
IMDB had a summary, everyone else is really hung up on the
cock sock. Ratings are not great at IMDB with a 4.5/10, and Rotten Tomatoes doesn't have a review yet.
The first of the new Hobbit movies is The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug arriving in December. Colbert is the king of Tolkien trivia, so I hope for more Hobbit talk and less sock talk.
I had to post some Velvet Underground and Lou Reed in honor of his passing. First up is my favorite Velvet Underground song, Run Run Run.
The next selection is Lou Reed with the band Luna
Luna was a dream pop/indie pop band formed in 1991 by singer/guitarist Dean Wareham after the breakup of Galaxie 500. Described by Rolling Stone magazine as “the best band you’ve never heard of,” Luna combined intricate guitar work, traditional rock rhythms and poetic lyrics to elegantly capture the romance of the late night.
Final selection is Reed doing an amazing cover of the Blind Lemon Jefferson song See That My Grave Is Kept Clean. This version with Lou Reed needs to be on an episode of Justified, you can easily picture Raylan in Harlan County standing over somebody he just shot.
