I figured it out. I'm entering 40K as 40,000. It should be entered at 40000. I'll ask the people I was talking to if they used commas. Thanks to everyone for their feedback.
Today a friend was hysterical about how much their insurance would be with the ACA. She kept telling me that, as a 45 year old woman, she was still being charged as if she were a younger woman of childbearing age and therefore was being charged more than an older women in menopause. I tried to explain that wasn't possible but she insisted it was. Then she told me the website. thehealthsherpa.com. I'd never heard of it. Then I came home and a friend on facebook was trashing the ACA because her premium was going to double and she would not qualify for a subsidy (I'm 99% sure she would). Again, her source was thehealthsherpa.com.
We're still making decisions as to what we want to sign up for but I've used both the ACA website where you can browse plans in your county/state depending on your age so I'm aware of the prices for the policies we're interested in. I've also browsed the Kaiser subsidy calculator. The Kaiser site said we would get a subsidy. However, according to thehealthsherpa not only did we not qualify for a subsidy, it said the policies would be double what the ACA site says. I can't find out who these people are. I've tried to google thehealthsherpa but only their info comes up, no reviews, warnings, etc. Does anyone know?
