This is so maddening. I built and slept in those structures 40 years ago. Wrote poems, played guitar and danced in the chilly night.
My friend, the composer and jazz musician, Brian Whistler, wrote the following...
In their infinite wisdom, the park commission decided to burn all the beautiful driftwood sculptures and buildings on this special beach just north of Jenner...
... These little structures were artistic and whimsical and covered with poems and drawings. A very peaceful place to spend the vernal equinox, which will be the last time I visit this place as it was. Oh, the "controlled burn" got out of hand and went up the side of the hill, burning all the natural flora and threatening the bridge. They had to bring in 4 fire trucks and two helicopters to bring it under control. Unbelievable. A Sonoma county landmark gone. And a hillside destroyed. Lovely.
